I have read this work several times. Each time I find something different to focus on. This time I was led to the importance of documents in poetry. Using someone's words to "you" like an apology forces you to hold it. It seems like a sort of sharing, and passing of responsibility.
The Whereas Statements are responses to the "apology" given to the First Nations peoples. To me it explores the way apologies move through the body.

ReplyDeleteI also thought a lot about apologies during reading this book of poetry, and how empty they can be. Almost like eating something with empty calories, it gives no energy and was given with no intention of that it seems.
